So many Americans are glad to be "free" because of the government. Sadly, they believe that freedom is being able to say what you please and write what you please as long as it doesn't upset the government. The government gives us small junks of freedom and allow us to do small things within their rules. What many people don't understand is that freedom is not something that has different sections that can either be given or discarded. Freedom is the ability to live how we want as long as id doesn't impede on someone else's freedom.
Modern society teaches us that the government is the reason for our increase in freedom and that the government deserves praise and needs our money to continue their ways. They steal our money through taxes. No person likes to pay taxes but they do so because they are told that it is right and not to question it. Also, they are threatened with violence and imprisonment. Some people might not see that taxation is theft. Is it theft when the government forces you to give them your hard earned money by threatening you it isn't obviously theft? It is because our society and the government that influences it says that it is your responsibility to pay for the slaughters that take place across the globe. (a.k.a. wars).
"Get a job. Go to work. Get married. Have children. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Obey the law. Save for your old age. Now repeat after me: "I am free". I am sure that you have heard this quote before and may think several different things about it. You may think that it shows we aren't as free as we think, which it does, or you may think it is sort of dumb in the sense that there is nothing wrong with living that way. Is that a bad way to live your life? No. Can it make you happy? Yes. For some people they don't want to live that way. They may want to do more with their life. Sadly, our society is not very accepting towards the people that want to live their lives differently than everyone else. This also shows that we are not as free as we think we are. More in the essence of not being able to live and think how we want to.
In an anarchist society people are able to live how they want, to the extent of not harming or negatively interfering with other people's lives. You may picture a wasteland when you hear "an anarchist society" but if you understand what anarchy is you know that that picture is messed up. The word "anarchy" literally means no rulers, not no rules. People are truly free when they don't have an individual or group of individuals ruling over them. The government is merely a group of individuals who try to rule over your everyday lives. The only way to be free, the only way to have a perfect society, is to abolish the rulers/government. If we allow the government to choose how we live and what we can and cannot do we will not be free. Everyone has a choice to make. You can either become an anarchist and spread the word about the evils of the government, or you can close your eyes and continue telling yourself you are free. You can choose freedom or you can choose a corrupt society.
